Current version 1.0.0 (build 12) iOS / iPadOS 15.0+ · Android 7.0+

Controls & getting started

How do I ride the bike?

Hold your device in landscape like a pair of handlebars. Lower the right side to lean right and the left side to lean left, as if leaning a motorcycle into a bend. Tip the top edge away from you to open the throttle and pull it back toward you to brake; if you are standing still, pulling back reverses gently. Small movements are enough. Circuit 1, Neon Meridian, teaches each move with short tips as you reach each section.

Brake hard while the bike is upright, then lean: the brakes and the lean angle share the same grip, so full brakes and full lean at once will put you on the ground.

The bike drifts, or steering feels wrong

Open Settings › Controls and try these, in order:

  1. Set neutral while holding the device the way you play. Do this again whenever you change how you sit; it is also in the pause menu as Set neutral position.
  2. Run setup: three short steps. Hold the device the way you like to play and keep still for a moment, lean right, then tip forward. Dead zone and smoothing are tuned to your hand.
  3. Pick a Style: Smooth (calm, with extra smoothing), Balanced (recommended) or Sport (sharp and direct).
  4. If the bike drifts while you hold still, raise the Dead zone. If steering feels mirrored, use Invert steering; if throttle and brake feel the wrong way round, use Invert throttle and brake. Steering sensitivity and Throttle & brake sensitivity set how far you need to lean or tip.

Open test area takes you to the Practice Circuit, with no score and no penalty, so you can feel every change. If leaning views make you uncomfortable, lower Lean with the bike to zero for a level horizon.

Tilt steering doesn't work at all

iOSNormally the game receives motion data without any permission prompt. If motion access was ever denied, the game says Motion access is off: allow motion access in your device settings and restart the game, or tap Use touch steering. If the message stays, tell us your device and iOS version.

AndroidSome devices have no motion sensors. In that case the game says This device does not report motion and uses touch steering instead.

If the sensor stops answering during a race, a Motion signal lost banner offers Set neutral or Use touch steering.

Can I play without tilting the device?

Yes. Go to Settings › Controls › Steering method and choose Touch for an on-screen stick (also available as Touch steering under Settings › Accessibility). Drag it to steer, accelerate and brake. Handedness moves the stick and the pause button to the side you prefer. The bike rides with identical physics with either method, and every option stays leaderboard-eligible.

What happens when I crash, or run off the track?

A crash is a real crash: rider and bike slide off their separate ways and the clock keeps running. A moment later you are back on the bike, standing on the track where you fell, and the race goes on. Results show how many times you crashed.

Kerbs grip less than the asphalt and gravel slows you hard. If you go beyond the track limits, the game warns Track limits: this lap won't count: that lap can't be your best lap or a lap record.

Restart race in the pause menu (or holding the restart button) ends the race: its time won't count.

How do medals, the ghost and the Pro badge work?

Time is the only judge. Every finished race earns a time; the medals ask for more. Each circuit has its own reference times: bronze within 115% of the circuit's par time, silver within par, gold within 105% of the official ghost's time, and platinum faster than the official ghost. The circuit card shows the time you need for your next medal.

Your best race on each circuit is saved as your ghost, a faint bike you can race next time (Show ghost in Settings). Sector splits compare you with your best as you ride. Switch every electronic aid off in the Garage (the Pro preset) and your times carry the Pro badge.

What are Duel Mode and Solo Mode?

In Settings › Race. Duel Mode (the default) puts a rival on the grid beside you, on the same bike and electronics as yours. It fights you all the way to the flag, and contact is real: hit it hard and you go down. Opponent skill sets how quick and clean it rides: Amateur brakes early and runs a little wide, Pilot is quick and tidy, Racer rides ideal lines within a whisker of the circuit's best time. The results show the rival's race time and best lap.

Solo Mode is just you and the clock, chasing your ghost when it is on. Your times, medals and records count exactly the same in both modes. Changes apply from your next start.

Do I need an internet connection to play?

No. Every race, the rival and your replays work fully offline. A connection is only needed when you buy or restore the full game, and for the online leaderboards, including watching a record's race or challenging it.

How do I change the language?

Open Settings › Language. The game is available in 20 languages. System default follows your device language. Circuit names and tips, menus and messages change at once; the store listing and system dialogs follow your device language.

Purchases

What is free, and what does the purchase include?

The download is free and includes circuits 1–4 (Neon Meridian, Tharsis Spire, Prism Lab and Plasma Causeway), the Crossplane R4 and the Flatplane R4, which you earn by finishing circuit 4. They are yours to keep. A single in-app purchase, Full Game Unlock, unlocks circuits 5–19, including the HyperLean Grand Prix, the three bikes you earn on them (the Twin V90, the Triple T3 and the electric Electron Overload) and the full-championship leaderboard. There are no ads, no timers, no subscriptions and nothing else to buy.

The purchase costs US$6.99 in the United States. In other countries the store shows the local price in your currency, which may differ and may include local taxes. You always see the exact price in the store's own payment sheet before you confirm.

How do I restore my purchase on a new or reset device?

Usually you don't need to do anything: when the game starts with an internet connection, it asks the store which purchases your account owns and unlocks circuits 5–19 by itself.

To restore by hand, tap Restore purchase on the full-game screen or in Settings › Account.

iOSMake sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy. The App Store may ask for your password.

AndroidMake sure the Play Store is signed in to the same Google account you used to buy.

If you're offline, the unlock is restored automatically as soon as you're back online.

I bought it on iPhone. Is it unlocked on Android too (or the other way round)?

No. Purchases belong to the store where they were made: an App Store purchase can't be used on Google Play, and a Google Play purchase can't be used on the App Store. The desktop edition on itch.io is a separate purchase as well.

Within the same store, the purchase works on all your devices: on any iPhone or iPad signed in to the same Apple Account, or on any Android phone or tablet using the same Google account.

There is no online sync of progress. Your times, medals, ghosts and settings stay on the device; they move to a new device only through your own backup (iCloud, or Google backup and device-to-device transfer on Android), within the same platform.

It says my purchase is "waiting for approval"

The store hasn't completed the payment yet. This happens with Ask to Buy on the App Store (a parent or guardian must approve) and with slower payment methods on Google Play. You don't need to buy again: the circuits open by themselves as soon as the purchase completes.

"Purchases unavailable", "Not on sale right now" or "Price unavailable"
  • Purchases unavailable: in-app purchases are turned off or not supported on this device, for example by parental controls, or on an Android device without the Google Play Store.
  • An error when you tap Unlock full game: purchases may be restricted, for example by Screen Time on iPhone or iPad, or by purchase authentication in Google Play's parental controls. Check those settings or ask the account owner.
  • Not on sale right now: the store isn't offering the purchase at the moment. Please try again later.
  • Price unavailable right now: the store couldn't be reached. Check your connection and tap Reload price.
How do I ask for a refund?

Payments are processed by Apple and Google, so refunds are handled by them under their own policies. We can't see or refund store payments ourselves.

iOSRequest a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

AndroidFollow Google Play's refund instructions. For recent purchases you can usually request a refund directly in Google Play.

After a refund, the full game is locked again on that store account. Circuits 1–4 and your progress stay on your device.

Leaderboards

How do the online leaderboards work?

Open Leaderboards from the main menu. Boards: Full championship, Free chapter and Single circuit, where each circuit has a Race board (total race time) and a Best lap board. View the Top 100 or Around me, worldwide or My country. Each row shows the rider's name and flag, the time (championship points on the two championship boards), the bike, the operating system and their total play time.

Nothing is sent until you tap Publish my scores (or Publish on the results screen), which you can do once every 24 hours. The game sends your record races together with a recording of your inputs, and the server re-simulates every race with the game's own physics before it counts, so every time on the board was really ridden. It keeps your record race, so other riders can watch it and challenge it. There is no account: the game uses a random player ID made on your device.

The desktop edition and its demo have no online leaderboards.

How do I watch a record, or challenge it?

Open Leaderboards, choose Single circuit and tap a record marked Race replay available.

  • Watch the race plays the whole race back from its verified recording, with the TV cameras, exactly as it was ridden.
  • Challenge this record starts a race of yours against that record as your ghost. A record set in Duel Mode brings its rival's ghost too.

You can watch any record. To challenge one, the circuit must be open in your championship; circuits 5–19 need the full game. Records of the Full championship and Free chapter boards are totals over many circuits, so they have no single race to watch.

A record's race can't be watched

Only races of the current version of a circuit and of the game's physics can be played back, so keep the app up to date. When a circuit is updated, the boards of that circuit start again. If the record was just improved or removed, the game says This record's race can no longer be watched: refresh the leaderboard. The game also checks every replay before showing it and refuses one that doesn't reach its recorded time.

Some of my races were not accepted

Only races the server can verify count: it re-simulates each one from its recorded inputs and checks the time, every lap, the track limits, the bike and the electronics. Only races of the current version of a circuit count: if a circuit was updated since your best race, ride it again and publish again. If nothing could be verified, nothing is published and you can still publish today.

How do I change my name or country?

In Settings › Account. The display name is 3–16 characters (letters, numbers, spaces, - or _) and is checked by a filter. The country is optional: it shows a flag next to your name and lets you compare yourself with riders from the same country. Choose Prefer not to say to show no flag.

Progress & your data

Where is my progress saved? Can I lose it?

Your progress, times, medals, ghosts, settings and your unlocked full game are saved on your device. If you use your device's own backup (iCloud on iPhone and iPad, Google backup on Android), they're included in it. Only what you publish to the leaderboards (your record races, with their recordings) is also stored online.

Deleting the game deletes the saved progress. On Android, Clear data for the app also erases it. Your purchase is never lost: it is restored automatically from the store.

How do I delete my data?

On your device:

  • iOSDelete the app from your iPhone or iPad. If you use iCloud Backup, older backups may still contain it until they're replaced or deleted in your iCloud settings.
  • AndroidUninstall the app, or open Settings › Apps › HyperLean › Storage › Clear data.

Online (leaderboards): in the game open Settings › About › Privacy › Read › Delete my online data. It removes your player ID, name, country, play time and every published time and race recording from our server straight away, and your progress on the device stays as it is. If you no longer have the app, use the form below, tell us your display name, and we will remove it.

If you've written to us, you can also ask us to delete your messages. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Desktop edition & browser demo

How do I ride on a computer?

Arrow keys or W A S D: left and right steer, up (or W) accelerates, down (or S) brakes and reverses when you are stopped. Hold Shift to ride gently. On a gamepad the left stick or D-pad steers, the right trigger accelerates and the left trigger brakes. Settings › Controls › Steering method › Mouse lets you hold the left button and drag. Esc or P pauses, R restarts, F switches to full screen and M turns the sound on or off. Every key is listed under Settings › Controls › Keys and gamepad. See all controls.

The keys don't respond

Click once inside the game: a game embedded in a web page (for example on itch.io or on this site) receives the keyboard only after a click. If you clicked outside it, click it again and press Esc or P to resume.

Where is my desktop progress saved?

In your web browser, on your computer only. Clearing the browser's site data erases it, and each browser keeps its own copy. Use Settings › About › Back up progress to save it to a file, and Restore progress to load it in another browser, on another computer, or from the demo into the full game.

How do I buy the desktop edition, and what about refunds?

The full desktop edition (US$7.99) is sold on itch.io, which handles the payment and keeps your download link in your itch.io library. Refund requests for it go through itch.io. It is a separate purchase from the iOS and Android unlock.

The desktop game is slow or blurry

Make sure hardware acceleration is on in your browser's settings, and close other heavy tabs. In Settings › Graphics keep Auto quality or pick a lower preset, and lower the Frame rate on very fast monitors. Press F for full screen. The game needs WebGL 2: Chrome or Edge 90+, Safari 15+ or a current Firefox.

Performance

My device gets warm or the battery drains quickly

3D racing games use more power than most apps. In Settings › Graphics:

  • Keep Quality on Auto: it picks the right detail for your device and quietly lowers it if the device gets warm.
  • Turn on Battery Saver: it caps the game at 30 frames per second and uses a lighter detail level.
  • If you raised Frame rate above 60 (possible on screens that run at 90 or 120 Hz), lower it again.

Reset this page to defaults in Settings › Graphics brings every graphics setting back to its default.

Which version of the game do I have?

Open Settings › About: it shows the version and build number. The current version of the iPhone, iPad and Android apps is 1.0.0 (build 12). Please include it when you report a problem.
